Athabasca Dispatch Newsletters
The Athabasca Watershed Council provides the “Athabasca Dispatch” newsletter to all AWC-WPAC membership, and online for the general public. The newsletter provides updates on the work of the AWC-WPAC, stewardship news, information on new research and updates on events.

AWC Annual Reports
The Athabasca Watershed Council Annual Reports are provided to all AWC-WPAC membership at the Annual General Meeting of the Society. The reports provide a financial report, and an overview of the work and progress of the AWC-WPAC during that fiscal year.
Athabasca State of the Watershed Report - phase 1
The Athabasca State of the Watershed Report – Phase 1 was completed in March 2011. The report is a general review of literature on available and current research, data and knowledge about the Athabasca Watershed. The report includes:
- A preliminary atlas and spatial database of the Athabasca Watershed
- A preliminary draft list of indicators of watershed health
- A Draft State of the Watershed – Phase 2 Terms of Reference
- A Draft Guide to foundational indicators for State of the Watershed Reporting
- Summary of Concerns and issues in the Athabasca Watershed
- List of Key Threats and Pressures in the Athabasca Watershed
- Recommended Indicators of Watershed health for the Athabasca State of the Watershed Report
- Data and Knowledge Gap assessment
The Athabasca State of the Watershed Report – Phase 1 is an internal working document and provides preliminary information for the Athabasca State of the Watershed – Phase 2 Report (coming March 2012).
Traditional Knowledge Overview for the Athabasca River Watershed –
contributed to the Athabasca Watershed Council State of the Watershed Phase 1 Report.
The Athabasca Traditional Knowledge Overview provides information on how the Athabasca Watershed Council may work towards completion of a Traditional Ecological Knowledge Report on the health of the Athabasca Watershed. This report describes:
- Traditional knowledge indicators of ecosystem health
- Aboriginal peoples of the Athabasca Watershed
- Livelihood factors
- Traditional foods
- Resource development in the Athabasca Watershed
- Several tables related to criteria for TEK studies
- Several figures that relate to TEK in the Athabasca Watershed
The report recommends the review and agreement of Treaty 8, Treaty6 and the Métis Nation of Alberta before proceeding with a full Traditional Ecological Knowledge study and report for the Athabasca Watershed.
